Q: Will I be able to show properties?

A: No

Q: Can I refer clients to any actively licensed agent?

A: Yes, you can refer business to any licensed real estate agent in the United States.  Your split will be slightly better if you refer MN/WI business to a Marathon Realty agent (see below), however you are free to refer work to any agent you choose.  We will never pressure you to send referrals to Marathon Realty agents.

Q: What is my commission split on referral fee income?

A:  If you refer a client to a Marathon Realty agent, you receive 100% of the negotiated referral fee.  If you refer a client to any other active real estate broker/agent, you receive 90% of the referral fee and Marathon Referral Associates, LLC keeps 10%.

Q: What if I’m not sure who I would refer clients to?

A: We can suggest several agents in the Twin Cities area and western Wisconsin.  If you’re referring a client to someone outside the metro, we can suggest methods of researching agents who accept referrals.

Q: Does my license have to be active to transfer to Marathon Referral Associates, LLC?

A: No, your license can be inactive, however, it must have been inactivated within the last two years.  You also need to be current on CE including required modules.  After two years of inactive status, Commerce requires you to re-take the exam (contact Commerce for exact steps required to reactivate your license).  

Q: I’m not sure about the current status of my license or CE – can you help?

A: Absolutely.  Please reach out and we can research your license and CE status for you and discuss your options.

Q: What are the annual maintenance costs and requirements if I transfer my license to Marathon Referral Associates, LLC?

A:  You will pay a $100 fee to Marathon Referral Associates, LLC up front before we transfer your license.  After that, there are no ongoing company fees.  You will have to pay the license renewal fee every other year (currently about $71 with technology and processing fee).  You will have to keep up on your continuing education, and that cost varies depending on which CE provider you choose.

Q: How quickly can you transfer my license?

A: If your license is currently active, it can be transferred in minutes.  If you are inactive, it will take about a week for Commerce to process the reactivation.  Note: if inactive, you must be current on CE or your license will not be reactivated.  We can help figure out your CE status if your license is inactive.

Q: I own my own brokerage and have agents that might be a good fit for your LFRO brokerage.  Will you be respectful if they only refer deals back to my brokerage?

A: Absolutely, yes!  Agents are free to refer clients to whichever agent or brokerage they choose and we will never pressure them to refer work to Marathon Realty.  You can also transfer their license back to active status with your brokerage at any time (although we won’t refund or prorate the $100 fee).
